Mystery Boxes as Gifts: How Many to Buy and What the Odds Mean
DumpliPop · 2 octobre 2026 · 3 min de lecture
One mystery box is a surprise; three make a small event — and because the odds are printed on every box, you can work out exactly what each extra box buys before you spend a cent.
Every blind box on our site uses the same published odds: Common 60%, Rare 25%, Epic 12%, Legendary 3%. Here is what those numbers mean when you are buying for someone else.
What one, two or three boxes actually buy
Each box is drawn independently, so the arithmetic is simple and a little humbling.
- Rare or better is 40% per box. One box: 40%. Two boxes: 64%. Three boxes: 78%.
- Epic or better is 15% per box. Three boxes give about a 39% chance of at least one; six boxes, about 62%.
- Legendary is 3% per box. Ten boxes give about a 26% chance; you need roughly twenty-three to pass even odds.
So three boxes is the sweet spot for a gift: a good chance of at least one Rare-or-better, without the cost of chasing a Legendary nobody can promise.
Never promise the Legendary
It is tempting to wrap a box and say "there might be a golden one inside". There might — at three chances in a hundred. Frame it as the long shot it is, and the Common that comes out is still a present instead of a disappointment.
Duplicates are part of the format
Several boxes from the same range will often include the same design twice. That is how blind boxes work, not bad luck. If a duplicate would spoil the moment, mix ranges, or add one named design so at least one surprise is guaranteed to be new.
Sets usually cost less per box
Many ranges also come in sets of two to twelve boxes. Each box is still a separate draw on the same odds, but in most ranges a set costs less per box than buying singles. Not in every one, though — the product page shows the price per box for each set, so compare before you choose.
Check the size before you buy
"Mystery" covers everything from 3 cm minis to regular 8 cm squishies, and the product page always states which. For a young child, a regular-sized box is the safer surprise: all our squishies are rated 3+, but minis are small parts in the most literal sense.
The box is the wrapping
Blind boxes arrive sealed and printed, which is the point — the reveal is the unwrapping. A ribbon is plenty; wrapping paper only hides the part people like looking at.
Questions we get
Can I choose which design is inside?
No — that is the format. If you need a specific design, buy it as a named squishy, or add one alongside the boxes.
Are the odds the same for every mystery box?
Yes. Every blind box on our site uses the same four published tiers, and each box's page prints them.
What if they get a duplicate?
It happens, and it is normal. Collectors trade them; families pass them on. If duplicates would ruin it, mix ranges or include one named design.
